How to Optimise Your LinkedIn Profile for Visibility, Connections & Conversions

What's all this fuss about LinkedIn?
Well...
- It's a powerhouse for professionals looking to build a meaningful brand, prospect, and convert new customers.
- Over 930 million users globally – including many CEO’s, senior decision makers, and key industry influencers.
- And, its more than a game of likes and comments - it’s a platform that’s transformed my business and personal brand!
(Nearly 80% of my referrals come through LinkedIn.)
However…
As LinkedIn’s algorithm has evolved in recent months, there’s never been a better time to review your profile and capitalise on its global reach and networking potential!
Now, as someone who has delivered LinkedIn training to many SMEs, here’s the questions I get asked the most (and my responses) …
Q1: How should I present myself to make an impact on LinkedIn?
A: First impressions matter!
- Use a professional, approachable profile photo and banner image that represents your brand - formal or creative, as suits your field.
- Craft a compelling headline and About section that go beyond job titles.
- Tell your story: share what drives YOU and why YOU do what you do.
- Be concise but impactful, and add a call to action.
- Use the Featured section to display your best work - pin your most popular posts / videos, articles, or link to your website.
Q2: How can I optimise my LinkedIn profile with keywords?
A: LinkedIn is THE business search engine… (imho)
- Start by identifying keywords that reflect your expertise and target audience.
- Incorporate these keywords naturally in your headline, About section, and Skills to improve your profile’s searchability.
- Think of it as SEO for LinkedIn - keywords help your profile show up when people search for skills and expertise you offer.
Q3: How can I create authentic content on LinkedIn?
A: Now, I know we hear this often these days but - Authenticity is key!
Share insights and stories that genuinely reflect YOUR voice.
- LinkedIn’s algorithm favours original, thoughtful content, so avoid just copying text from tools like ChatGPT.
- Instead, use AI as a starting point and add YOUR personal insights.
- Aim to educate, inspire, or spark discussions, not just to sell!
Q4: What’s the best way to build meaningful connections on LinkedIn?
A: Quality over quantity – always!
Seek connections within your industry or target audience that align with YOUR goals.
- Use LinkedIn’s search filters to find professionals in your niche, engage meaningfully with their posts, and build rapport before sending a connection request.
- Genuine interest shows and makes all the difference.
Q5: How can I stay consistent and proactive on LinkedIn?
A: Consistency is crucial…
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to post on LinkedIn every day.
- Aim to post valuable content 2-3 times per week, engage daily with other posts, and respond to comments and messages promptly.
- Proactively reach out to connections and comment on industry leader posts.
- LinkedIn’s algorithm rewards profiles that engage consistently.
Q6: How can I use LinkedIn’s tools for personal branding?
A: Good question!
LinkedIn provides some free tools to help building and promoting your profile:
- Use Creator Mode to increase your visibility and access analytics to track what content performs best.
- Use the Featured section to showcase your top work;
- Use LinkedIn Analytics provide insights to refine your strategy.
- These tools make it easier to grow your brand strategically and engage the right audience.
I’m hoping that by sharing these tips will help YOU build a compelling personal brand on LinkedIn, connecting YOU with the right people and boosting YOUR visibility.
